Ten years and two adorable kids later, this sweet couple renewed their vows in the beautiful gardens at Le Chene. But it wasn’t just any vow renewal ceremony — Danielle was surprising Randy for their 10th anniversary! Once Randy walked into the garden it only took a only a few moments for him to fully comprehend what was about to take place. He had absolutely no idea Danielle had been planning the ceremony and was brimming with happiness. The two never stopped smiling and Randy even shed a tear or two of joy. A wedding may be the most important day in your life, but there is something so magical about renewing your vows.

sarah + adam :: ontario wedding

September 22, 2014

Last month I had the pleasure of photographing my cousin’s wedding in Canada. She was a tall dark-haired Texan who crossed paths with a witty curly-haired Canadian and they will live happily ever after. Their day began overcast with a chilly breeze whispering through the emerald trees lining Stoney Lake, Ontario. As Sarah and her bridesmaids perfected their hair, Adam and his well-coiffed groomsmen aligned their suits readying for the day’s event.

Several small boats were moored in a harbor awaiting the guests. A 20-minute excursion across the lake to a church perched atop a rock island was enjoyed by all who attended. As the time came, so did the rain. As if the heavens washed away all the couple’s troubles and woes to prepare them for a new start together. The guests walked from the docks along the rocky shore adorn in yellow slickers or holding umbrellas bustling into the church.

Once the ceremony started the cold and rain didn’t matter, the love in the small 100-hundred-year-old wooden church was enough to warm all who were present.

A short boat ride back to the mainland and it was off to an extravagantly planned reception. Nestled next to the lakeside, Adam’s parents provided an
incredible venue for the celebration of two becoming one. There were speeches, jokes, tears, dancing, and love under the tent.

Congratulations and keep in mind: rain on a wedding day brings good luck and the blessing of many children!

Most guys know how hard it can be to plan a proposal–just getting it right and making it memorable. Most women know how much time is involved in planning a wedding. Well, just imagine planning both and pulling it off without the bride’s involvement. Last month I had the honor to photograph months of planning done by one man to surprise his bride-to-be, and what a surprise it was!

My husband works with the groom, Brandon, who for the last few months planned, toiled and concealed the surprise from his future wife, Rebekah, to give her the shock of her life. After a roller coaster of emotions, the bride and groom were engaged. And after a record short engagement of twenty minutes, an announcement of a wedding was underway! Approximately 100 people came together on hillside ranch in Leona Valley, California to watch as two families became one. And who better to preform the surprise ceremony than the bride’s father and groom’s father, who are both ministers.

Under a full moon lit sky, the newly married couple joyfully celebrated and danced the hours away. A tip to those planning weddings, Brandon jokingly noted towards the end of the evening, “it’s surprisingly easy to plan a wedding when you don’t include the bride in any of the decision-making!”
